Make a list of all of the people you know who might be able to give you good advice about finding work.
This list should be long; friends, neighbors, your friends' parents, professors, relatlives, etc. Feel free to put me on your list; I enjoy helping.
Example List
Kathy Haselmaier Uncle Hank Audrey Brown (previous manager) Karen Smith (Mom's friend) Bob Henry (Mark's dad) Joe Markus (had a great summer internship last year) Maddy Salls (former co-worker) Gabe Grole (college roomate) Bart Fannel (high school friend) Robert Pearl (former neighbor) Dr. Rank (college professor) Linda Owen (friend from spin class) Len Erin (Bree's soccer coach) John Doe (Brian's college roommate)
Every time you think of a new contact, add their name to the list!
Keep in mind that people closest to your own age may have different advice than people who are a lot older or younger than you. You may want to contact a wide variety of people to keep the input balanced. Be careful about taking advice from people who are not working (and sometimes have the most time to help).
Disclaimer: I am no longer working, but know many who are and can introduce you to them.
