The easiest way to stop notifications from a Facebook group is to find a person <45 years old and ask them to stop the notifications for you :) But if you want to tackle the effort yourself:

Find your way to the Facebook group
Adjust the following "Notification" settings as follows:
If this doesn't enable you to achieve the desired effect, consult a person <45 years old, or feel free to leave the group. The good and bad news about social media is that even if you don't monitor it, chances are high that your friends and family will fill you in ... whether you want them to or not :)
Also, nobody will be offended if you leave the group. We get that this is not everyone's preferred communication style.
WHY stop notifications
Some people are over-communicators, so controlling notifications enables you to check-in at a time that is convenient for you
Some busy groups produce an overwhelming number of notifications that aren't valuable to you
